Statik Dancin’ was the first song that we covered in 2007 (see vol. 1).
I fully assumed my position as a rented voice and kept quiet on the fact that I don’t like this song and never liked this band.
I listened only once to the original, and recorded my part.
We completed our version, posted it on a long gone MySpace competitor, job well done, let’s go celebrate while we can: the world should not fail to register and beg us for more.
I spent many hours in 2021 searching for the version we did on old, slow, partially corrupted hard drives that haven’t been plugged in years.
Zilch.
I felt really bad: Minimal Compact is one of Guillaume’s favorite band, and I can only guess that it’s because of me not liking their music that I never saved our version.
I kept several versions of the other songs, but none of that one.
I’m tempted to say “don’t judge me”, but frankly, this is worth a trial.
All I had kept was the vocals I recorded on my laptop.
As I was off-sick for some time, as a consolation prize, I proposed to use the unearthed vocal part, add some music, and he could have fun with it.
It worked really well: lawyers were immediately fired, and Guillaume did the decent thing: get rid of my uninspired vocal part and sang the damn song himself.
While searching for Statik Dancin’ 2007, I found other unused recorded vocal parts I don’t even remember singing. Some of these were even included in the Dust & Chimes world domination plan, and one thing leading to another, here’s vol. 2.
